More success for LGB at the regionals

LGB made the annual pilgrimage to Stevenage on Saturday 17 March, this time to participate in the third section of the London and Southern Counties regional heat of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain (following our promotion from the fourth section last year).

The day started well, with an early morning mention from Anneka Rice on her Radio 2 show (click the triangle to hear it):

The draw worked out well for us and we were allocated the 10th playing slot, leaving us a couple of hours to kill in glorious Stevenage before we needed to be on stage. A large LGB contingent decided that bowling was the best way to stave off the nerves, and were then introduced to the patented ‘Simon Skip’, an interesting bowling technique from our principal cornet, Simon Emberley (video to follow – sorry Simon, it has to be done…).

That approach seemed to work – and our performance of ‘Olympus’ by Philip Harper was placed third by adjudicator Kevin Wadsworth, much to our delight.

A full match report will follow but for now have a good look at the standard cheesy photos…
