The immediate past Mayor of Lewes, Councillor Ruth O’ Keeffe visited the band to present the award inaugurated by Cllr. Mike Chartier when he was in office, which recognises our Most Improved Young Player. Our recipient this year is a young lady who started to learn to play two years ago. Being the sensible young lady that she is, she had decided to try out the three instruments on her short list: French horn, violin and trombone. Her Father, who is also a musician, recommended the violin or the French horn. We are very pleased that she chose the trombone!
Last year, Alice was selected to play in the National Children’s Orchestra. She is also enjoys taking part in productions by Lewes Operatic Society, and indeed, appeared in the recent production of The Music Man, staged at the Town Hall.
Alice regularly attends the Thursday evening session for our younger musicians, and has recently started to sit in with the senior band at it’s rehearsals. She has also just completed her first engagement with the Senior Band at the event to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Seaford Rail Line.
