Welcome to BrassSparks!

Congratulations! Today your child took the first step on an exciting journey. It’s a journey that all of the band’s members started at some point. For some it’s become a whole career, in playing or teaching. For others it’s a lifelong hobby, a means of making friends all over the country and beyond. Many of us met our partners through playing, and are now introducing our children and grandchildren to the world of brass music.

If that seems a bit hard to believe right now, we get it. So here’s what it’s all about.

Over the next 10 weeks your child will be introduced to the basics of playing a brass instrument, surrounded by their friends and in a familiar environment. They’ll learn how to enjoy making music as part of a group. At the end of term they’ll take part in a performance and show off their new found skills. If that’s it for them – that’s cool with us.

But if they enjoy it, and you’re up for supporting them to explore it a bit further, then we’d love to invite them to be part of the BrassSparks crew for a little bit longer….

At the end of each term, we invite all of the young people taking part in the whole class brass course to come along to our regular BrassSparks rehearsals. They take place on a Thursday night, at 7pm, at the All Saints Centre in Lewes. And because we know that children can be a bit – shall we say, fickle? The first term is absolutely free of charge. We’ll even lend them an instrument that they can take home for practice. All you have to do is bring them along.

We’ll send you more information nearer the time, so for now just sit back, relax, and enjoy hearing all about it!

BrassSparks is part of the Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Brass Band. Classroom outreach sessions are conducted in partnership with Create Music.
