It feels like a long time ago now (how is it January already?!), but on 3rd December we hosted our annual Christmas concert in support of our youth program, BrassSparks. The event was especially memorable as several young players made their performance debut
This was the first concert featuring all three bands: the Senior Band, BrassSparks, and our newest beginners’ group, BrassSparklers. The Sparklers had only been playing together as a group since September, so their performance was quite an achievement!
BrassSparklers is our ‘total beginner’ group and welcomes young members who have either graduated from one of our whole class brass courses or have just decided they want to give brass playing a try. They rehearse at 7 PM on Thursday evenings, learning the basics of playing their instruments and, starting this term, they’ll begin learning to read music. We can’t wait to see what they achieve
BrassSparks, our junior brass band, is for younger players with a bit more experience. This year’s concert was particularly special, as three BrassSparks members performed a trio version of “Away In A Manger,” accompanied by the Senior Band.
We would like to thank everyone who came and supported the concert. Playing to an audience is a vital part of learning an instrument, and playing to a sell-out crowd is nice for all of us!
