Civic ceremonies are a core part of brass banding and there is no civic ceremony that we participate in that means more than Remembrance Sunday.
As a band we are honoured to participate in two different events, at Ringmer for the 11am commemoration, and in Lewes at 3pm for the wider district observances. As the town band of Lewes it is one of the days when we are most visible to our community, and it’s a responsibility that we take very seriously.
This year was no exception, with principal cornet Neal Bland doing the honours on Last Post at both events, and Musical Director Ian Stewart proudly leading the marching from the front. As always we would like to thank the Royal British Legion for their invitation and stewardship.
It’s a day that isn’t without a bit of fun though, with the now traditional ‘Band Sunday Roast’ in the Pelham Arms taking place in our break between the two jobs. It was universally acknowledged that the pork this year was the best yet, and we’d like to thank the pub team for having us again (especially as we were late for our booking due to over running slightly at Ringmer).
