Our band was out and about on the streets of Lewes last night celebrating bonfire with our friends at Commercial Square Bonfire Society. The weather was quite a lot kinder to us than over the last couple of years which made for a great introduction to the bonfire celebrations for our visitors and some of our newer members.
Apart from a small incident involving a fire engine (believe it or not, not something we often see in Lewes on bonfire night) and the absence of the burger van that normally keeps us all going at the mid point of the festivities, everything went to plan and good fun was had by all.
Special thanks to the members of the band who participated in our first ever ‘bonfire banger’ competition, which involved arranging a well known tune for the band to play on the high street. ‘Always look on the bright side of life’ and ‘Every time we touch’ went down particularly well with the crowd this year and it’s always nice to have people singing along! We’re thinking we might need to introduce a cow bell into our percussion section for next year…
Onwards now to Remembrance Sunday at the weekend when we’ll once again be dusting off the march cards.
