LGB Brass hosted the Southern Counties Amateur Band Assocation Solo, Quartet & Ensemble Contest at Ringmer Community College on Sunday 17th February.

The band has been hosting the contest since 2005, when it moved from its previous location at Godalming. Members of the band organise the booking, entries, facilities, communication to participants and, on the day, stewarding of the contest. SCABA officials handle the registration of the entries and the overall contest control.

The contest attracted 51 entries from all over the region. The youngest was an 8-year-old player from Patcham; the oldest was Jim Calloway, who also plays with Patcham, as well as with LGB.Katy Wakeford-Brown of LGB Brass

Katy Wakeford-Brown, from LGB Brass, (pictured right with adjudicator, Linda Cole)  came 3rd  in the youth solo competition.

An ensemble from LGB Brass, led by Simon Emberley (pictured left with adjudicator David Barringer), came 2nd in its section.

Catering at the event was taken on this year by friends of the Ringmer Scout and Guide Associations. LGB Treasurer David Pattenden organised theirSimon Emberley of LGB Brass participation. They will retain the profits from the catering and use them to boost their fund for a new loo for the Ringmer Scout Hall.

The contest started at 8.45am and finished just before 7pm. Comments from the participants were very positive and everyone had a good day at a friendly contest that, hopefully encourages young people to play brass instruments.

Full results of the contest are on the SCABA website
