LGB and friends pull in the crowds
LGB Brass joined two other Lewes organisations
to put on a spectacular evening of music and fireworks on Saturday
(July 12th).
The popular Proms in the Paddock,
organised by Commercial Square Bonfire Society and LGB Brass, was
joined this year by singers from the Lewes-based East Sussex Community
Choir.
The audience of more than a 1,500
people was treated to four mini concerts. The evening began with LGB
Brass featuring music from films and shows, including the themes from
Starwars and Pirates of the Caribbean.
The choir, conducted by Susan Bain,
then took over with a programme that included Chorus of the Hebrew
Slaves and Some Enchanted Evening. LGB’s youth ensemble,
led by Matt Key, picked up the tempo with jazz and swing numbers,
including a big band version of Greensleeves.
Band and choir then came together,
conducted by LGB’s Musical Director Ian Stewart, to lead the audience
in Prom night favourites, Sussex by the Sea, Rule Britannia
and Land of Hope and Glory. The evening ended with the
traditional LGB performance of the 1812 Overture accompanied by
fireworks from Commercial Square Bonfire Society.
LGB Brass secretary, Jane Stewart,
said: “Proms in the Paddock is the highlight of our year. As usual,
the audience was fantastic. This year, we were delighted to be joined
by the East Sussex Community Choir and look forward to putting on more
concerts together in future.”
