Double success for Ian
LGB Brass musical director, Ian Stewart, had a double contest
success at the weekend (May 15-16th).
Ian plays solo
trombone with
Friary Guildford Band, as well as conducting LGB Brass. On
Saturday, Friary Guildford took 4th place out of 20 in the Senior
Trophy section of the British Open Spring Festival in Blackpool.
The contest attracted many of the leading bands from across the UK.
The adjudicators, Dr Robert Childs (Musical Director of the Cory Band)
and Richard Marshall (Principal cornet of the Black Dyke Band)
commented on Friary Guildford: "Bravo. A super show." and "A
strong performance from a strong band".
The result means that Friary will be invited to compete in the
Senior Cup (the next section up) at the British Open in 2011.
Ian then drove home to Horsham to help wife Jane (LGB's bass
trombone player), who was organising the
Southern Counties Brass Band Association Entertainment Contest at
The Hawth in Crawley on Sunday.
Friary Guildford was also competing at the Entertainments Contest
and took 1st place in the A Section, five points ahead of the 2nd
placed band.
