Trophy for Johnny

Jonny Moles, LGB's solo trombone, received the Mayor of Lewes Trophy for the Most Improved Young Player.Johnny Moles receiving the Mayor of Lewes Trophy from Deputy Mayor, Mike Turner.

The cup was presented at the band's rehearsal on Thursday April 8th by the Deputy Mayor of Lewes, Cllr Mike Turner.

Jonny (18) moved to trombone from 1st baritone in September last year. He also plays tuba in the band's youth ensemble. He is currently studying for A levels at Sussex Downs College in Lewes. He will be playing with the band at the National Brass Band finals at Harrogate in September and then leaving the next day for university, where he plans to study geology.

The Mayor of Lewes Trophy was launched as an annual award in 2009 by the then mayor, Cllr Michael Chartier. The winner receives a cup and music vouchers.

  • Former LGB Brass member, James Emberley, has been appointed 2nd Euphonium of the award-winning Fairey (Geneva) Band.
    Last month, Faireys qualified for the Championship section of the National Brass Band Finals and will competing against the best in Britain at the Royal Albert Hall in October.
