Raising brass for Sussex Air Ambulance

LGB Brass raised £1,276 for Sussex
Air Ambulance at its Brass for Life charity concert in the Town Hall
on Sunday (March 8th).
The concert, hosted by the Mayor of Lewes,
Michael Chartier, was sold out. The band chose to support Sussex Air
Ambulance after it saved the life of a former band member, Matthew
Perry, who was severely injured in a road accident last year.
Matthew and his family were in the 250-strong
audience, along with the Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex, Daphne
Obang, the High Sheriff of East Sussex, Hugh Burnett, Lewes MP Norman
Baker and members of Lewes Town Council.
The first half of the concert was by the
'Nippers' youth ensemble, conducted by Matt Key. This was followed by
the full band, conducted by musical director, Ian Stewart, playing an
entertaining selection of music, including the test piece The Once
and Future King. This is the test piece that the band will play
later this month at the area qualifying contest for the National Brass
Band Championships. The concert finale, Sussex by the Sea, was
conducted by the band's former musical director, Stan Woods.
