Brass for life concert
Former LGB Brass musician, Matthew Perry, owes his life to
Sussex Air Ambulance.
He was severely injured in a road accident in September 2008. He
survived only because the Air Ambulance crew revived him at the scene
and was able quickly to get him to hospital for treatment.
When LGB Brass players heard about the accident, they wanted to
thank Sussex Air Ambulance in their own way by organising the Brass
for Life fundraising concert. The
Mayor of Lewes,
Cllr Michael Chartier, has given his support and will host the
concert.

Matthew, who lives in Barcombe, received multiple injuries in the
accident, which happened on the A275 near South Chailey. Sussex Air
Ambulance flew him to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. He was
on life support for three days but after a month was finally well
enough to come home. He is still waiting for an operation on his knee
but is expected to make a full recovery.
He and his family will be attending the concert. His mother,
Theresa, said “If Sussex Air Ambulance was not there, Matthew would
not be here today. They didn’t expect him to make it to hospital. We are
very thankful to the Air Ambulance.”
When the accident happened, Matthew was preparing for an interview
to join the Royal Air Force. He now plans to apply again in September
this year.
