Merrily we rolled along
On February 23rd 2008, players from LGB Brass travelled to the
Watermills Theatre in Newbury to see Simon Tuck, one of the band's
corner players, perform in
"Merrily we roll along" by Stephen Sondheim. But, as LGB
percussionist Katie
Ribbons reports, it wasn't your run of the mill play.
This play had musical instruments in it as well, providing the
actors with something to do and making up a large amount of the stage.
The
play was about one man's struggle and success with fame, and how it
affected the people around him. It started from the end and
worked its way backwards, which had to be explained to most of us!
Our man Simon sang, acted and played the French Horn and even the
triangle - which kept us amused! And at the very end he even
brought out his cornet to show his appreciation of us generously
attending the show!
The musical was liked by everyone which was just as well, seeing as
Simon said the actors played their instruments especially well as
there were proper "musicians" in the audience! It was a grand day
out, and great to see Simon in the spotlight, doing what he does best!
We were waiting now to hear about his Oscar nomination (for his
triangle playing!!) Pictures by Taff Emberley |
