I started playing piano at 5 and then added clarinet at 11. The school brass band I played in allowed Bb clarinets in, but I soon moved to tenor trombone.  After a year, I was moved to Solo Euph at school and there I stayed until I went to University.  I also played euph with my local Town Band and both trombone and later euph with Rushden Windmill.  I stopped playing when I went to University in London and only started back when I saw Horsham Borough Band on a very cold, wet and windy Bandstand playing Christmas carols in 1999, a break of some 17 years.

Having got the bug back, I played euph, baritone and tenor trombone with Horsham before joining the Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Band in 2004. I was Secretary and Librarian at Horsham and have been  Librarian at LGB.  I’m currently the Secretary for the band. I’m also the Contest Manager for scaba and have responsibility for organising all of their contests.

My proudest banding moment was being presented with the Winner’s Cup when we became 3rd Section National Champions in 2013.  It’s probably the worst photo of me ever taken!

I have two grown up children, neither of whom play, but both of whom are very tolerant of piles of music being absolutely everywhere! I’m married to Ian, our M.D., who also plays trombone with his own band, Friary Brass Band, so you can guess how most of our spare time is spent!!

I’m very proud to be a member of the Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Band; they are a great team, very sociable and committed to our band.
