About Us
LGB Brass is an active and popular band based in Lewes, the county
town of East Sussex.
We have around 50 members from across East and West Sussex,
attracted by the band's friendly atmosphere and high standard of
music. There are senior and junior sections, both of which give concerts and
take part in competitions. We also have a group of young learners who
regularly join the band's junior section.
We have a large and varied repertoire. At our concerts, you
will hear traditional marches, music from film and stage, virtuoso
solo items and the best from the modern brass repertoire. Many pieces
are arranged exclusively for LGB Brass by Nigel Simmons, one of the
band's bass players. Click here for details on how to book us
for an engagement.
We rehearse on Thursday evenings at the All Saints Arts Centre.
Friars Walk, Lewes. If you'd like to come along and listen, click
here for a map. The junior section rehearsal is from 7pm-8pm. The
senior band meets from 8pm-10pm. We also offer tuition for young
beginners on Monday evenings from 6.30-7.30m.
LGB Brass is always looking for experienced players. We can offer
good-quality instruments. There is also support for players returning
to brass music. Click here for details of how to join
us.
LGB Brass regularly takes part in competitions. In 2006, we
qualified for the third section finals of the National Brass Band
Championships in Harrogate at the first attempt. We also compete in
contests organised by the Southern Counties Amateur Bands Association.
We won the second section contest in 2004 and came 3rd in Spring 2006.
