LGB: “sweet and tasty”
LGB Brass was praised for its “tasty” performance
at the National Brass Band Championships at the weekend.
The competition, held in Harrogate, North
Yorkshire, attracted the best brass bands in England, Wales and
Scotland. LGB, representing London and the Southern Counties,
qualified for a place in the contest at the first attempt.
The judges described LGB’s performance as
“enjoyable”, “tasty” and “chilled”. The brass band website,
www.4barsrest, said the tone of the band’s principal cornet player,
Simon Emberley, was “as sweet as a pint of London Pride”.
Along with the 16 other bands in its section, LGB
had to play a test piece – Sinfonietta for Brass Band by Gordon
Langford. Each band was awarded points for the quality and style of
performance. LGB was ranked 12th with 168 points.
Band chairman, Mick Horscroft, said: “Competing
at Harrogate was a tremendous opportunity for LGB. We will be able to
build on this experience for the future.”
