Meet the Band – Lizzie Holmes

lizzie

How did you get into banding?

I knew a couple of people at Horsham Borough Band and they got me along to a few rehearsals… I probably stuck with it because the first contest I ever did we came 2nd, got promoted and went to the national finals… it was all very exciting and a great time to be involved with the band!

Who have you played with?
Horsham Borough Band, Knottingley Silver, Lindley Band, Boobs & Brass and LGB Brass.
What do you play and what do you like about it?
At the moment I am playing trombone. I also play euphonium and baritone but I enjoy playing trombone the most because its loud and there are not many twiddly bits.
Favourite piece of music?
Impossible to answer! I do enjoy a bit of Ticket to Ride just for the novelty factor.
Best banding moment?
My top 3: qualifying for national finals with Horsham, my first Whit Friday experience and playing to a packed Leeds Town Hall with Huddersfield University Brass Band
Favorite LGB experience?
I love playing at Proms in the Paddock but have also had lots of fun on trips abroad to Germany and Hungary with the band.
Unknown fact?
I have passed my Grade 1 snare drum exam. I did it when I was 18 to raise money for charity!
