Great success for LGB Brass at Solos contest!

LGB solos duets Feb 16 (1)LGB Brass claimed a clean sweep of the scaba Senior Solos and Duets contest at St Paul’s Catholic College in Burgess Hill this weekend. Their principal euphonium player James Emberley was placed first in both the Slow Melody and Air Varie categories, playing ‘Donegal Bay’ and ‘Napoli’ respectively (accompanied by band chairman Peter Cowlett on each occasion). LGB Brass’s principal cornet player Christina Kearley was placed second in the Air Varie category playing Variations on a theme from ‘Norma’ by Bellini, and she also gained third prize in the Slow Melody class playing ‘Danny Boy’. In addition, Christina and Alex Emberley won the Duet class playing an eighteenth century Intrada. There were also some highly commendable performances from Liz Cowlett on baritone and Alan Cooper on Bb bass in the solo categories.
Many thanks to the organisers of the event – especially to our very own Jane Stewart! – and also to the constructive and detailed comments from the adjudicator Josh Cirtina – bass trombone player with the Fairey Band.
